LABORATORY OF
MATERIALS FOR
CHEMICAL ANALYSIS
MAT4LL Research Group
The MAT4LL Research Group results from the merger of two research groups: Química Analítica
Agroalimentaria y Medioambiental (QAAMA) founded by Dr. Venerando González and Dr. Ana M. Afonso, and
Laboratorio de Rayos X y Materiales Moleculares (MATMOL) founded by Dr. Catalina Ruiz-Pérez, and from the
recent incorporation of the research group Multideterminaciones de Interés Farmacéutico, Alimentario y
Medioambiental por Métodos Quimiométricos from ULL.
OUR PROJECT
The ultimate purpose of the MAT4LL Research group is to design new, smart, sustainable, selective and efficient materials to be used in
sample preparation methods for environmental, food and bioclinical analysis. The group has adopted an interdisciplinary approach
including not only analytical researchers but physics scientists and collaborations with organic chemists and parasitology research groups.
The developed projects mainly deal with the synthesis of metal-organic frameworks, ionic liquids and polymers, their physicochemical
characterization, their incorporation in microextraction strategies together with the study of the interactions between the materials and
the target analytes to improve the material designing step. In conclusion, our goal is the design of Materials For ALL!
